Teletubby, gay or straight?

Now, the woman who played the yellow Teletubby named Laa-Laa has decided to clear things up, saying that none of the Teletubbies were gay or straight.

So there you go naysayers! The show had no sexual undertones and even if Tinky Winky was gay, so what?!

Teletubbies started in the 1990s when an evangelical fundamentalist said:  "He is purple – the gay pride color; and his antenna is shaped like a triangle — the gay-pride symbol. Role modelling the gay lifestyle is damaging to the moral lives of children."

I was in elementary school when the Teletubbies came out and it was a popular show on the playground. But just because we were kids it doesn't mean we didn't know about the adult conversation surrounding the purple Teletubby, Tinky Winky.

"I think it's embarrassing for the people who said it," she said. "What kind of person can take the obvious innocence and turn it into something else? We were hardly sexual beings." I don't think any kid at my school associated the BBC program with any sort of sexual undertones but a lot of people claimed Tinky Winky was gay.
